- ChemWare Receives Application Security Certification -

ChemWare recently completed a third party Application Security Review of its Web Portal information delivery platform. The purpose of performing an application review was to test the security of sensitive data that is transmitted via the Web Portal and assess its susceptibility to outside threats. The review was performed by Secure Enterprise Computing, a leading provider of secure systems integration services.

The assessment process included the following:

  • An application assessment scan of Web Portal, taking note of application and host-specific issues;
  • Surveillance of the application and supporting host configuration;
  • Categorization and verification of potential application vulnerabilities; and
  • Guidance for additional security and configuration measures to insure the security of data transmitted via the Web Portal.
The outcome of the assessment proved that HORIZON Web Portal is “well structured and tightly constructed and coded, certainly not displaying typical and common application flaws that Secure Enterprise Computing often sees in its assessments. The basis of the application is a tried and tested platform, both from an application point of view and at the level of the underlying web server technology”.

- Top Ranking by Independent PHL Survey -

In a late-2003 CDC/PHII-sponsored survey of the public health LIMS market, HORIZON LIMS® received the highest overall score of the over two hundred vendor products evaluated. The evaluation weighted scores on each of the 500 requirements specifications across all sixteen critical business processes identified in the APHL LIMS requirements document.
In the evaluation scoring, the following guidelines were used by the independent research organization:
  • 5 = Provided as part of standard product today
  • 3 = Requires minor customization (< 5 person days of development effort)
  • 1 = Requires major customization ( > 5 person days of development effort)
  • 0 = Not provided/not applicable
HORIZON met all but twenty-one of the 2,470 requirements and sub-requirements off-the-shelf. In other words, more than 99% of all PHL requirements received the full score of 5 points – no customization of any kind required. The results of this survey are available to APHL members through a password-restricted area of the APHL web site.

- 2004 Frost & Sullivan Award for Technology Quality Leadership -

(From the Frost & Sullivan Press Release, March 2, 2004):

In a recent analysis of the World Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) Markets, Frost & Sullivan recognized ChemWare, Inc.’s focus on devoting significant resources to develop a product based on user-selectable business rule parameters and for significantly reducing the risks, resources, and time associated with LIMS deployment.

"A successful LIMS delivers business value, giving business unit leaders more control over business practices and laboratory operations than they had prior to deployment," says Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Nate Cosper.

"Embracing the client’s need for business control, ChemWare focused its design strategy and development efforts on producing an off-the-shelf LIMS solution that shifts the laboratory reins from the IT department back to the business unit leader. The company accomplished this by creating an open architecture LIMS platform that promotes configuration instead of customization. In fact, not a single HORIZON user has had to change source code in order to meet industry- or lab-specific needs."

Award Description
The Frost & Sullivan Award for Technology Quality Leadership is bestowed each year upon the company that has demonstrated excellence in technology leadership within their industry. The recipient company has demonstrated technology leadership by excelling in all stages of the technology life cycle—incubation, adaptation, take-up and maturity — to ensure a continuous flow of improvements. By innovating leading-edge concepts the company has pioneered client applications. Past Frost & Sullivan Award winners in the technology categories include Agilent, Cybernet Systems and UPS Aviation Technologies.

Frost & Sullivan employs over 500 consultants, market analysts, corporate trainers, account managers and customer support staff globally. They work together in providing growth consulting and corporate training solutions to clients in more than 50 countries around the world.
